Volunteering
“Whatever community organization, whether it’s a women’s organization, or fighting for racial justice … you will get satisfaction out of doing something to give back to the community that you never get in any other way.” — Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I have found several ways to give back, and RBG is right on target. My volunteering efforts are so satisfying that it seems I receive more than I give.
This is my fourth year of serving as a volunteer in the AARP’s Tax Aide program. Gearing up each January to go through the training and pass the test is a great start to the year. In addition to providing a valuable service to seniors, I deepen my knowledge of tax law and software.
My other volunteer efforts in 2018 include: serving on the Vestry and the Endowment and Financial Committees at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church in Camden; serving as a provider in Spectrum Generations Money Minders program; and in June, I will volunteer as a shuttle driver and Area Steward at the Groton House Farm Horse Trials.
